My name is Mark Skoyles, I’m your Liberal Democrat candidate for Beaconsfield County Councillor. After a varied career, I have run a small Sports Therapy practice in Marlow for the last 12 years. I am a governor at the local primary school and an active member of the local Chamber of Trade and Commerce. I know how important a thriving local economy is to a community and will do all I can to support the businesses of Beaconsfield.
There is a need for stronger scrutiny of local council decisions in Bucks.. I won’t oppose for opposing sake but not having to toe-the-party line and with no vested interests I can work in the interests of ALL Beaconsfield residents. I have a particular interest in helping to develop life-long preventative healthcare strategies that seamlessly integrate local NHS trust and community care / social services. I have been monitoring the progress of the Marlow Community Care Hub pilot with great interest.
The “housing market is broken” and government has committed to the biggest house-building programme since the 1950s. While I fully support this and believe we owe it to our children and grandchildren to build our fair share of more homes, I don’t want developments that ruin the character of our towns and villages. I would question the motives behind not providing for key workers in the new Wilton Park development. The County Council must always be thinking about building the infrastructure necessary for communities.
I’ve recently got involved in politics because I’m interested in how civil society operates and believe in democracy and moderate liberalism, I want to help people; it’s what I get up for every morning.
This summer I started a campaign and petitioned Bucks County Council and National Trails to improve a long section of the Thames Path between Marlow and Temple Lock that had been neglected for decades due to “lack of funds”. The path was resurfaced in September.
I live in Marlow with my partner Natalie and our two young children. I enjoy running, have been a member of the National Trust for many years and appreciate a good Real Ale. If elected I intend to listen more than I talk so please contact me if you have any questions.
